With Mardi Gras wrapped up in Louisiana and the Lenten season upon us, we wanted to share a few benefits of fish for your dog! Enjoy Fish Fridays together and check out why treating your furbaby to fish is great for their health.
Note: When feeding your dog fish, make sure it is fully cooked with no seasoning. Although many types of fish are suitable for dogs, stay away from high mercury species like albacore tuna or farm-raised fish. Read more about acceptable fish species here.
1. Skin and Joint Health
Fatty fish like salmon are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help the immune system, promote healthy skin and a shiny coat, and can reduce joint inflammation.
2. Heart Health
Fish are high in taurine which helps to promote vascular function and lower blood pressure.
3. Great Source of Protein
Fish is rich in amino acids and is easy to digest, and fish skin is a valuable source of collagen (excellent for the skin and bone health of senior dogs).
