It’s been over a year since we moved to the Bayou State, and we’re excited to share our experience of being a sponsor for the first time at the 28th Annual Mardi Paws parade in downtown Covington, Louisiana!
Mardi Paws is a play on “Mardi Gras” in Louisiana! This nonprofit organization, in connection with Scott’s Wish and The Ian Somerhalder Foundation, benefits the people and pets that need it most in the South Louisiana (and beyond) community.
Each year since 1994, Mardi Paws has put on the cutest paw-rade! We had our furbaby, Penny, riding in our very own Punk-n-Pye's Mardi Paws float and had a blast handing out Punk-n-Pye’s treats.
Each year at the parade, there is a Canine Court, complete with a Grand Marshal pup, honoring an extra-special group of dogs! This year, the Grand Marshal was Celebrity K9 MPC Layka. Layka is the first dog to receive the Medal of Heroism since WWII. MPC Layka saved the life of her handler, U.S. Army Ranger Julian McDonald, and his teammates during a gunfight with an enemy combatant in Afghanistan. Learn more about Layka and the Canine Court here.
We loved being a part of this annual tradition and are looking forward to next year with our Louisiana family!
